Philodendron erubescens, commonly known as the "Red-leaf Philodendron", is a striking climbing aroid renowned for its dramatic color transformation and vigorous growth habit that creates impressive vertical displays.
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light for optimal growth and vibrant coloration. Can tolerate some direct morning sunlight, but avoid harsh afternoon rays which may scorch the leaves and fade the red coloration.
- Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 18-26°C (65-80°F) for best growth. Protect from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and sudden temperature fluctuations which can cause leaf damage and stress.
- Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity levels of 50-70%. Higher humidity promotes larger leaves and more intense red coloration in stems and new growth. Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group with other tropical plants.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot, and reduce watering frequency during winter months.
Additional Notes:
Features large, heart-shaped leaves that emerge green and gradually develop deep burgundy undersides as they mature. The striking red to burgundy stems and petioles create a beautiful contrast against the glossy green foliage.
