⚠️ Important Application Guidelines

  • Do NOT mix with calcium nitrate or calcium chloride—will cause precipitation
  • For calcium supplementation, apply Calcium Nitrate separately (at least 24 hours apart)
  • In soils above pH 8.0, consider supplemental foliar iron and zinc during peak growth
  • If irrigation water is highly alkaline (pH > 7.5), acidify to pH 6.0–6.5 before injecting fertilizer
  • Reduce rates by 25% for trees under drought stress or in saline conditions
  • Store sealed in cool, dry location—magnesium sulfate is hygroscopic

NUTRIENT DEFICIENCY REFERENCE

This formula addresses the most common nutrient deficiencies in citrus and avocado, particularly those exacerbated by high soil pH:

Nutrient Citrus Deficiency Symptoms Avocado Deficiency Symptoms
Nitrogen Yellow leaves, stunted growth, poor fruit size Pale green leaves, reduced vigor, small fruit
Phosphorus Dull bronze leaves, poor root development Dark leaves, weak growth, poor flowering
Potassium Leaf curl, small fruit, poor quality Tip burn, small fruit, reduced yield
Magnesium Interveinal chlorosis on older leaves, V-shaped yellowing Yellow blotches between veins on mature leaves
Iron* Interveinal chlorosis on new leaves Yellow new leaves with green veins
Zinc* Small, mottled leaves; "little leaf" Small leaves, mottled pattern, round canopy
Manganese* Interveinal chlorosis, similar to iron Interveinal chlorosis on young leaves
Copper Dieback, gumming, S-shaped twigs Dieback of new growth, wilting
Boron Misshapen fruit, gum pockets Poor fruit set, misshapen fruit
Molybdenum Yellow spot, interveinal chlorosis Marginal leaf scorch (rare)

*Most common deficiencies in high pH soils. The acidifying nitrogen and chelated micronutrients in this formula specifically address these issues.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q  Can I mix this with Calcium Nitrate?

No—mixing will cause calcium phosphate and calcium sulfate precipitation. Apply Calcium Nitrate separately, at least 24 hours apart from this fertilizer. This is standard practice in professional fertigation programs.

Q  Why is this formula better for alkaline soils?

Two reasons: First, the ammoniacal nitrogen (39% of total N) creates a localized acidifying effect in the root zone, temporarily lowering pH to improve micronutrient uptake. Second, all micronutrients are EDTA-chelated, which keeps them plant-available even at pH levels above 8.0 where non-chelated forms would precipitate and become unavailable.

Q  How often should I fertilize my citrus trees?

For mature trees (Year 4+), split the annual rate into 4 applications: 25% in early spring (Feb-Mar), 25% in late spring (Apr-May), 35% in summer (Jun-Aug), and 15% in fall (Sep-Oct). Young trees benefit from more frequent, lighter applications—see the application rates table.

Q  Is this safe for container-grown citrus?

Yes! Use 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of soil monthly during the growing season. Because containers have limited soil volume, use lighter rates more frequently rather than heavier rates less often. Always water thoroughly after application.

Q  Why doesn't this formula contain calcium?

Calcium cannot be included with phosphorus and sulfur in a water-soluble fertilizer—they would react and precipitate, clogging your system and reducing nutrient availability. Professional fertigation programs always apply calcium separately. We recommend our Calcium Nitrate for your calcium needs.

Q  What if my trees show severe iron chlorosis?

For severe cases in extremely alkaline soils (pH 8.0+), supplement with foliar applications of Chelated Iron DTPA during peak growth periods. DTPA chelation provides superior stability at very high pH levels.

Q  How should I store this product?

Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight with the container tightly sealed. The magnesium sulfate component is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), so proper sealing is important. If caking occurs, simply break it up—nutrient content is unaffected. Shelf life is 2 years when stored properly.

Q  Can I use this for other fruit trees?

Yes! While optimized for citrus and avocado, this formula works well for other fruit trees in alkaline soil conditions. The chloride-free formula and chelated micronutrients benefit any crop sensitive to high pH or salt stress.
