OTHER: Black Jet is an heirloom soybean from the US. They offer 2 – 3 beans per pod. The beans have thin black skin & can be used as dried beans. The compact bushy plants are able to be grown in containers, & they offer a high yield of delicious beans. The pods grow in clusters & most mature at same time, making them easy to harvest.
Soybeans are a legume, so the plants can help fix the nitrogen levels of the soil to make it more fertile. The plants are also disease & pest free. They grow best when temperatures are between 60 – 70F, & can be planted as a spring or fall crop. They also have very lovely flowers, & the bean pods & stalks are fuzzy. Soybeans are rich in protein, and have been cultivated for more than 5,000 years. They have many uses besides just edamame or as dried beans. They are used to make tofu, soy sauce, soy milk, miso, flour, & animal feed. Soybeans also store well, & shelled beans can be frozen, canned, or dried, lasting for up to 12 months.
